Non-ADRC TTA Training – Connecting Paradigms: Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing

June 17 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Iowa’s Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health invites you to join their upcoming Zoom training – Connecting Paradigms: Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Registration is required.

Trainer: Matt Bennett, MA, MBA

In a quick-paced and dynamic training, participants learn Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills in the context of trauma-informed care and the Stages of Change. Many of those who engage in services face significant challenges if they are to achieve the employment and social outcomes we hope for them. Recent research on the brain and trauma gives those working with clients a new paradigm to improve outcomes for clients experiencing issues such as homelessness, substance abuse, mental health issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, and poverty. This training presents the trauma-informed paradigm in a practical context, providing participants with both a theoretical foundation and tools to apply immediately to their work with patients.

Training Objectives:

  1. State the relationship between trauma and high-risk behaviors.
  2. Implement the spirit of motivational interviewing into their relationship with patients.
  3. Utilize the Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing process to evoke and process change talk.
